With whitewashed self-catering villas and apartments, and views overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, this ‘urbanisation’ is a haven for travellers.
El Capistrano Village Nerja (El Capistrano Sur) is a clean and peaceful holiday village located 1.65km from the Balcon de Europa and Nerja town centre on Spain’s Costa del Sol.
With whitewashed self-catering villas and apartments, and views overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, this ‘urbanisation’ is a haven for travellers who are looking for a calm, tranquil and affordable holiday in Spain.
El Capistrano Nerja is a picturesque holiday village surrounded by tiled walkways and well-kept gardens and has all the facilities you need so that you do not have to leave the village if you don’t want to.
Your neighbours during your stay here will be a mix of Capistrano residents, short term lettings and guests just like you. There is a mix of nationalities including Spanish, British, Irish, Dutch and Scandinavian to name a few.
Where is El Capistrano Village in Nerja, Spain?
Capistrano Village is located around 1 mile (as the crow flies) from Nerja town centre on the quiet outskirts and is 75km east of Malaga Airport. Due to its close proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, Capistrano Village enjoys a unique microclimate, with gorgeously hot summers, mild winters with around 300 days of sun per year.
Getting in to Nerja Town from Capistrano
The walk to the centre of Nerja is all down-hill and is on a well-maintained main road. Simply walk straight out of the main entrance of El Capistrano Village for around 15 mins and then turn left on one of the roads leading in to Nerja town centre.
The only downside to this walk is on the way back – it’s very much up-hill. El Capistrano Village sits at the top of a slow incline, but it’s only really an issue if you or a member of your party has mobility issues. But I challenge anyone not to be absolutely knackered during those last few hundred yards through the village!
A taxi back from the town will set you back around 10 to 12 euros.
There is also a public bus service which stops in the village once an hour and will get you in to town for a Euro or two. Just check the up to date timetable at the start of your holiday so you can plan your day.
Getting to Burriana Beach from Capistrano Village
Another benefit of staying at El Capistrano is that you are only a 15-20 minute walk to Burriana beach. Again, it’s a very easy walk there all down-hill, but I must warn you – the walk back isn’t fun and is called ‘Cardiac Hill’ for a very good reason!
It’s certainly walkable but if you suffer from any kind of mobility issue, then forget it. It’s very unforgiving. There is a taxi rank on the beach or you can call Nerja Taxis to book one. It will set you back around 10 euros to get back to El Capistrano.
Accommodation in El Capistrano Village Nerja
First things first.
If you are looking to book a holiday rental property in El Capistrano, my advice is to do it as soon as you possibly can.
Nerja is an extremely popular holiday location where guests return to stay year after year; usually trying to book up the best villas and apartments.
So if you see a property you like the look of and it’s available, act quickly as properties get snapped up fast!
Accommodation in Capistrano Village range from one bedroom apartment to six bedroom apartment, with two bedroom apartments being very popular.
The vast majority of holiday apartments and villas in the village are privately owned and as a result, each apartment has different facilities and decor to the next.
While most of the rentals aren’t particularly luxurious, some will have an abundance of facilities like air conditioning and comfy outdoor furniture, whereas you may find some properties with just the basics.
But if you’re worried about being disconnected from the World, you needn’t be – I’ve not come across an apartment that didn’t have British television channels or access to Wi Fi.
But like any holiday, make sure you check the rental listing and amenities carefully before you book your stay!
Facilities in Capistrano Village
Two Swimming Pools
Capistrano village itself has a swimming pool located in two different areas of the complex. Both swimming pools are private for guests and residents and have poolside bars which serve all types of popular drinks and hot and cold food, all reasonably priced.
Sun beds are available but they cost a couple of Euros to rent for the day.
On-Site Bar and Restaurant
The Cave Bar (which funnily enough looks like it’s built in to a cave) offers a decent range of pub grub as well as a happy hour between 6pm and 8pm (at the time of writing). Again, it’s reasonably priced and there is a TV which shows the latest sporting events.
There is also another restaurant which offers more than just your usual pool/pub food. This is located through reception and overlooks the main swimming pool. However, this restaurant is seasonal, so if you go outside of the peak season (July-September) then there’s every chance it might be closed.
Restaurants & Bars Near Capistrano Village
There are a couple of other options available off-site, each no more than few minutes walk from the main entrance to Capistrano Village.
Close to the entrance of the the village is a tennis club with a it’s own bar restaurant – La Raqueta. It’s popular with ex-pats, has a varied menu and runs regular events.
Directly across the road is Hotel Nerja Club & Spa which provides a range of food including breakfast, snacks, sandwiches and speciality dishes for your evening meal.
And finally, if you take a left out of the main village entrance and walk along the main road for a hundred metres or so, you’ll find Hotel Los Arcos just over the road. Their family-run brasserie comes highly recommended and offers more of a special dining experience in comparison to the above.
Mini-Supermarket
As all of the villas and apartments are self-catering, the on-site mini market is very handy and stocked with pretty much everything you would need.
There’s a good selection of food, drink, cleaning and hygiene products as well as holiday essentials. You’ll be surprised just how much they manage to squeeze in there and it’s all very reasonably priced too.
Shops Near Capistrano Village
However, if you want to do a “big shop”, there are two large supermarkets close by with everything you would want and need. Mercadona is opposite the village on the other side of the main road and Sol is found just past the tennis club.
